The Downers Grove Area Branch of AAUW was founded in 1949 and has approximately 100 members from Chicago's west suburbs. AAUW, founded 1881, promotes the interests of women and girls through advocacy, education, research and philanthropy.
Monthly programs covering public policy issues related to women and girls, the arts and humanities; fund raising for gender discrimination lawsuits; scholarships for women returning to college; social activities, interest groups and clubs for opera, politics, history, books, movies and music and theater; annual used book sale. Ties to Pri-Merry Players theater group, League of Women Voters.
Most meetings are at the Downers Grove Public Library. Programs are usually free and open to the public. Membership is open to anyone with at least two years of college education or equivalent who supports our mission.
